Into the Light: Hope, Faith, and Recovery

Since the release of our curriculum in 2020, our main task within the Addiction Ministry Network has been the development of a basic introduction to addiction for church leaders.  During the Redstone Presbytery meeting on Saturday, November 18 we will announce our release of a new publication, which we call, “Into the Light:  Hope, Faith, and Recovery.”  We will make hard copies available at the presbytery meeting, but we also have a pdf digital version as a PDF(1.68 MB) .

This publication has two objectives, first, it provides background information for a group leader using our curriculum called, “Into the Light: Christian Responses to Addiction.”  Second, it provides basic addiction education, understanding recovery, and how the church can respond to relational and spiritual recovery needs to offer guidance for pastors and church leaders who have little or no knowledge or experience with addiction.

Addiction Ministry Network

The Addiction Ministry Network started in 2016 when a group of pastors and elders decided to meet to discuss possible ways we could help pastors, elders, and congregations to get involved in addressing addiction in their communities.  The network has members from different backgrounds, i.e., pastors, elders, recovering individuals, recovery house staff, local government providers of addiction treatment and prevention, medical personnel, and a few members from other denominations.

The Addiction Ministry Network meets together to learn more about how we can faithfully respond to the Opioid crisis and other alcohol and other drug problems experienced by our communities.  People suffering from a Substance Use Disorders (SUD) live their lives surrounded by fear, shame and hopelessness. We seek to remind them of God’s love and show them that they are not alone.  We have responded through Lenten devotions, NARCAN training and distribution, workshops, assisting family with grief, learning about local services, and developing a curriculum and companion videos.  You are invited to join us to learn more.
